Messi: A Legend’s Legacy Extends Beyond Trophies
Lionel Messi’s status as the greatest player of all time is widely acknowledged, and his remarkable list of honors is a testament to his brilliance.
During his incredible 17-year tenure at Barcelona, Messi secured 10 La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey trophies, and four Champions League triumphs. Now, at Paris Saint-Germain, he appears poised to claim his second Ligue 1 title.
On the international stage, Messi played a pivotal role in ending Argentina’s trophy drought, leading them to Copa America glory in 2021 as captain before lifting the World Cup trophy in December.
Notably, Messi’s individual achievements are just as remarkable. He has been crowned Argentine Footballer of the Year 15 times, earned six European Golden Shoes, and holds a record-breaking seven Ballon d’Or titles.
With his trophy cabinet overflowing, Messi has recently chosen to share his success. One of his prized possessions found its way to his PSG and Argentina teammate, Leandro Paredes.
The midfielder, currently on loan at Italian giants Juventus, recently showed journalists around his home in Turin.
To their surprise, Paredes revealed that Messi’s La Liga 2020-21 Best Player award was on his shelf.
When asked how he came to be in possession of the award, Paredes said: “He [Messi] arrived in Paris, I asked him if he would give it to me and he gave it to me.”
For most players, such an award would be something to be kept under lock and key. But when you’re the best player in history, what’s one award really worth?
