Gomez’s appearance out came just hours after she made her Saturday Night Live debut as this weekend’s host.
She was joined by 76-year-old Steven Martin – who has frequently hosted the show in the past – in a bit where he played a gag inventor of the Whoopee Cushion and other famous practical joke devices. The pair star together on the Hulu original series Only Murders in the Building.
The star also poked fun of Martin and her other co-star Martin Short, 72, in her opening monologue, saying, ‘I was so honored to work with Steve Martin and Martin Short, especially after I googled them to find out who they were.’

Gomez put her toned legs on display in a short little black dress, which she paired with black high heels.
The segment on Martin’s inventor character was part of the show American Inventors, where Gomez played the host, Taylor Gosh.
‘The automobile, paper cup, dancing, computer. These were all invented. But who did that, and what is their story?’ she stated, before introducing Martin. ‘We begin with Archie Gizmo, the brilliant inventor of the Whoopee Cushion.’

The camera then cut to Gizmo, who explained that in the early 60s he was a ‘struggling gag inventor.’
‘All I had was an early prototype of the cushion. I knew it would be funny to have your boss sit down, and a noise come from his butt, but I just couldn’t figure out what noise. I couldn’t crack it,’ he explained.
It was then that Gizmo met his wife, Ms. Dina Beans, played by Aidy Bryant, 35.

‘I saw her from afar. Her energy was magnetic. Her eyes were endless. And every time she sat down – Gas,’ he stated, adding, ‘It was that night he realized, the funniest noise to come out of a butt was a fart.’
Gizmo then goes on to share that Dina inspired many more of his devices, including the hand buzzer, google-eyed slinky glasses, and electric gum, with her notorious bad luck.
‘I fell in love with Dina, and she was behind every good idea I ever had. Because you see, she wasn’t just a chronic gas-passer. She was also the viciously most unlucky woman I had ever met,’ he stated.
The show then cut to a montage of all the unlucky things that happened to Dina, including being attacked by poisonous snakes hidden in a peanut jar, being struck by lightning repeatedly, and having her eyeballs pop out of their sockets.
‘How this woman did not die between two lightning strikes and a snake attack is between her and God. But Archie’s hit pranks just kept coming,’ Selena explained.
‘Archie became the most famous gag inventor in the world. And it was all thanks to Dina Beans,’ she added.
And though Gizmo became rich, he sweetly stated that ‘Dina was the prize, and the greatest gag she ever goofed was marrying a guy like me.’
