Stephen Curry Promised In 2009 That He Will Turn Around The Warriors When They Were A ‘Mess And Total Circus’

The Golden State Warriors are unarguably the most successful team over the last decade or so. Since 2015, the Dubs have been to six NBA Finals and have won four championships in those trips. The center of the success is none other than Stephen Curry.

Curry has changed the way fans think of the Warriors. But when Steph was drafted to the organization using the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the conditions of the Warriors were laughable. The future two-time NBA MVP promised to improve things for the Dubs in 2009, and he delivered on his word.

“Warriors are a mess, but have only themselves to blame. The dysfunction starts at the top of that rudderless organization. Total circus,” Woj tweeted in 2009.

Curry most likely saw Adrian Wojnarowski’s tweet in 2009. He apparently responded to the tweet a couple of months later in the same year.

“Promise to all the Warrior fans. We will figure this thing out. If it’s the last thing we do we will figure it out,” Curry’s tweet said.

The Warriors finished the 2009-10 season with a 26-56 record and were one of the worst teams in the league. Evidently, fans had little to no expectations from the Dubs. They missed the playoffs for two more seasons, but Curry and the Warriors finally figured things out in the 2013 playoffs.

Curry led the team to a second-round exit. It was the beginning of good things for the franchise. In 2015, the Warriors made it to the NBA Finals and Curry won the first ring of his career.

Steph, alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, carried the Warriors to three more titles. Fast forward to 2023, the Warriors are considered the most successful team of the 2010s.

Stephen Curry Wants To Run It Back With Klay Thompson And Draymond Green For One More Season
The Golden State Warriors were eliminated in the second round of the 2023 playoffs at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Many believe it’s the end of the Warriors dynasty as we know it. Bob Myers stepped down as the GM of the franchise. Draymond Green has opted out of his $27.6 million player option for the new season. Despite that, Stephen Curry has shared his thoughts on potentially running it back once again.

“I think the most likely scenario is that the Warriors keep most of this together for at least one more season. That’s what Curry wants. His opinion sort of matters.”

Well, even though Steph wants to run it back, there is no surety if the original trio of the team will be back together on the roster. As of now, the Dubs have added Chris Paul to the roster to bolster their championship hopes.
