Victor Wembanyama’s agent claims the 7-foot-4 rookie adding weight to his frame would be a ‘huge mistake’ – as he reveals Spurs rookie wants to follow ‘path’ of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

San Antonio Spurs No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama is not focused on lifting weights to add size to his slender frame, according to his agent Bouna Ndiaye.

Victor Wembanyama's agent states that he thinks it would be mistake for him to add weight

During an interview with NBA insider Marc J. Spears, Ndiaye stated that he felt adding weight would be a ‘big mistake’ for Wembanyama.

‘Did you see an issue here in Vegas? No. People are wrong. We’re not focused at all on weights. I don’t want to put weight on his body,’ said Ndiaye.

‘We’re going to fight to not put weight on his body. Weight on his body [is] a big mistake. We focus on strength, core. We were very pleased that he linked up [with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] who played until [41] years old. That’s the path that we want to take.

‘I’m very glad they connected because they have a similar body type. Kareem was not heavy.’

‘Victor is more mobile, gaudier and taller than Kareem,’ he added. ‘So, that difference in height is a challenge and is something that we are working on every day. Making him heavy? We don’t want to do that.’

Wembanyama’s performances through his two summer league games served to be a bag of very mixed results after his first game left viewers concerned that he may turn into yet another overhyped bust, while his second game showed the signs of domination that many expected to see from the 19-year-old.

He finished his first game with nine points on 2-13 shooting, eight rebounds, five blocks, three assists, and three turnovers in 27 minutes.

‘Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court today, but I’m going to learn for the next game and be ready for the season,’ he said after the extremely disappointing summer debut.

In his second game he rebounded to record 27 points and 12 rebounds, before being shut down for the rest of the summer by the team.
